This wordless picture book comes from Molly Idle, a former DreamWorks animator, which makes complete sense, as it plays out exactly like a Pixar short.

Decked out in her bathing cap, pink swimsuit, and flippers, Flora begins to imitate an uninterested flamingo. The flamingo does its best to ignore and dissuade young Flora’s playful antics, until Flora takes a sudden spill. Flamingo takes pity and soon the fast friends indulge in a whimsical ballet together that ends with a splash.

This lift-the-flap picture book is pure fun and delight. Flora and the Flamingo is only the first of a series of Flora books.

Lovable, furry old Grover (of Sesame Street fame) is scared. There is a monster at the end of the book, and he is doing everything in his power to stop you, the reader, from turning the pages. He ties pages together, builds walls, all the while begging the reader to Please. Stop. Turning. The. Pages.

This is an interactive book created before they were all the rage. It’s short, simple, funny, and fun.

While obviously not a “Halloween” book, it could easily fit a Halloween theme if need be. This is definitely one of my favorites.

This is a delightful book, where the reader imagines she is planet Earth. As a baby, our daughter enjoyed the colorful illustrations and flowing words, but as she’s grown, it’s so much fun to wriggle, twirl, and shake along with the book’s suggestions. A great book to help remind us of our connection to Mother Earth.
